Death By Stereo Signs With Viking Funeral Records

Fri, 02/03/2012 - 07:30
Death By Stereo Orange County, CA's Death By Stereo has signed with Viking Funeral Records for their sixth full-length, Black Sheep of the American Dream, which is due out this spring. The band's vocalist Efrem Schulz explains: I am proud to be a part of Viking Funeral because Fletcher [Dragge of Pennywise], Ken Seaton [of Hardline Entertainment] and the whole Suburban Noize family have the same DIY, never back down mentality that we have. Viking Funeral is a perfect home for us, as we've seen how labels work and the majority of them are more interested in making a quick buck instead of developing an artist that puts out great records. Working with Viking Funeral brings us back to our early days in the hardcore and punk-rock scenes that birthed us, because they care about the music rather than what's trendy. This record is a return to our roots and with the addition of our original bass player Paul Miner as producer we have re-established our signature sound and we managed to forge a new sonic path for Death by Stereo. Death By Stereo is currently out on a European tour with Agnostic Front and Naysayer which they'll follow with a few southwest US shows.

Interviews: Ampere

Thu, 02/02/2012 - 17:00
Ampere It seems like recently there has been an upsurge of bands resurrecting the "screamo" genre that flourished in the late 1990s and early 2000s. One such band, which features members of Orchid and other contemporaries, is Ampere from the Boston area, who produce music that rises above the ordinary tropes of the genre (i.e. love gone wrong). Instead, the band, as with its past releases, delivers socially-conscious lyrics through intricate, yet chaotic passages with Like Shadows. Staff interviewer Andrew Clark spoke with guitarist Will Killingsworth and bassist Meghan Minior about the release and ongoing commitment to DIY.

Thu, 02/02/2012 - 14:30

The news was revealed earlier today via a blog post from Jeff Rosenstock. The show will take place at the Warsaw in Brooklyn, NY on May 27th. Rosenstock goes on to quell talk of further shows, saying that "this show is a one time thing. There are absolutely no plans to make another record, to go on a big tour anywhere or anything like that. We all like the places we're at in our lives for the most part. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't get together and have one more beer with our friends."

You can read the complete post here, which also contains links for the Facebook event page, and purchasing tickets. Tickets go on sale February 6th.

He is working with comedian Dana Gould on the series which would revolve around a rock band reaching the brink of stardom and breaking up. The series would document the band seeking help from a couples counselor, which may remind some of the non-fictional story of Metallica's therapy exercises in Some Kind of Monster.

The project is as-yet untilted but if picked up would join a lineup which includes critically acclaimed shows like Archer, Justified and Louie
