Year: 2007 Hi from Istanbul, Turkey to Long Beach, California! We hope you're okay. What Resistant Culture is doing now? Right now we’ve just returned from a tour of the East Coast/Midwest United States and getting ready for a West Coast tour. We’re also finishing our new album “All One Struggle”. What's the big matter in your life now? Life is pain, short, endless and we're mortal, hard but we forced to live. You've some serious problems and clear targets certainly.. We all have serious problems, we’re concerned with the state of the world because people don’t care for nature. Our main target is to make people aware of the dangers of repeating the same mistakes that humanity has been repeating for thousands of years. Your past 20 years.. 3 albums.. 15 years waiting.. What kind of developments did you exist? Why this waiting did continue so long? Resistant Militia was the original band that eventually evolved into Resistant Culture. Over the years the line up has changed but the music has always been politically extreme grind/punk/metal. It hasn’t been a matter of waiting, its always been giving the music and the message 100% of the creative energy and inspiration at every stage. Again, it’s been an evolution. 2000 and later are second spring for Resistant Culture.. You'll release the new album near future, have you ever think of your 1990's years.. Did you make any self-criticism so that "why haven't we done it"? The 1990s were great but we’ve had a lot of self development since then. We don’t have any self-criticism because things evolve and again at every point it’s been sincere. It doesn’t feel like waiting, it’s more like growing. The lapses in between helped us grow as individuals and as musicians. You first played a grindcore/thrashcore/crust style in the vein of old school hardcore punk bands like The Exploited and Napalm Death. Please tell us some Resistant Militia days.. A lot of band was grateful for grindcore/crust styles to you and Terrorizer.. Resistant Militia was one of the first “crossover” bands to mix the punk styles of music and dress with metal. Resistant Militia was very well established in the old days but it was always a struggle to be who we were and not conform to either just punk or metal expectations. It was awesome to break the boundries and be a part of the formation of grind and crust. Your country has got native musicians as Chuck Billy, John Belladonna but we can't hear native musics from them. The creation of native music and metal music combination is belong to you or did it make by another musicians? We want to obtain information to you. The birth of Resistant Culture’s music comes from the struggle to survive as a people, a culture, and a way of life in the 21st century. Two members are of native descent and very involved with indigenous cultural affairs. Bringing the traditional indigenous instruments into this music was a natural thing to do for us because its very personal and close to our heart. Its something we feel we must defend and protect. This music represents various struggles, and forms of resistance. It’s organic texture strives to be a voice of the earth and its peoples.
What do Anthony think of about Jesse Pintado now? "Darker Days Ahead" was really hard album but especially Jesse's missing must be so tragic for you (and extreme music lovers).. We can't still believe this! It has been very shocking and painful to lose my long time friend, especially since we’d been working so closely together in the last couple of years. I feel honored to have shared in some of his last creative energy and music. Both myself and all of Resistant Culture loved and respected him as a band-mate and friend. We’ll always miss him. Your life, politics, ecology themes are quite serious for grindcore so what can you say about non serious grindcore bands (you can think pornogrind bands)? In fact, grindcore truth is yours but there's a lot of funny grindcore band and their music is listenable. What about you? We feel that reality itself is horrific enough to go with the sound of the music. We don’t need to make up fantasies of evil or brutality when the industrial system is itself totally brutal and sadistic. We don’t like to criticize other bands but we really don’t care for music that glorifies violence against women and demonstrates an overall lack of respect for the seriousness of violence, abuse, rape, etc. What kind of label is SOS Records? Do you pleased to work with them? Are they enough for your works? SOS is a prominent punk label. We’re one of the few bands with a serious metal sound. We’re not sure how it will ultimately turn out but the main reason we decided to work with them is their level of global distribution. "All One Struggle" full-length was announced for March 2006, but is still in the making. When will we listen this long awaited album? Have you got a important problem? We do our own recordings so we take our time in the tracking and mixing. We’ve decided to take more time promoting the Welcome to Reality CD which is in its second pressing on SOS records. We should have “All One Struggle” out in early 2008. We can’t wait for it to be released its in the final mixing stages right now. Hardcore was meeting tribal grind with "Welcome To Reality"! Is "All One Struggle" will be more shaky than "Welcome To Reality"? What will we see on your new album? You can expect the same amount of tribal instrumentation. We feel it’s more powerful and dynamic. You’ll definitely enjoy the new dimensions of tribal grind crust on All One Struggle. Which bands are you listening now? According to you, which bands will rise in extreme metal (grindcore, death, thrash, black (?) and even doom metal huh! huh! huh!) stage? We don’t want to say because there’s too many but we do listen to grind, death, punk, black metal, etc. A hard question coming.. Maybe it’s very simple to answer for you. Can we say for grindcore style that “it’s underground future is clear and it won’t be “never” very populer”? We don’t know what the future will be for grindcore. We know that we love it.
"Anarchy" word is known very simple something as "destruction" by a lot of people. I think "anarchy" isn't known good so a lot of people says it about "worthless". Some of Turkish metall"er" teenagers are wearing anarchy t-shirts/hoodies here but if you investigate them, you can see them incapable. This is an generalization. I suppose they're forgetting your values by the times, too. What can you say about this unconsciousness? Unfortunately most people misunderstand anarchy to mean disorder when in fact it’s the state that causes us to live in disorder (war, environmental degradation, poverty, exploitation,etc.). Before civilization, all human’s lived tribally without the state. In tribal communities people lived in harmony and balance. People need to understand that humanity evolved for millions of years without government. Our true nature is to live autonomously meaning to govern ourselves. Tribal peoples learned to govern themselves so they can maintain balance with the earth, the people, and all relations. The misconception about anarchy is that it means lack of responsibility, but in fact it means even more responsibility, the responsibility to govern yourself in a good way.
According to your opinions, PUNK IS DEAD OR ISN'T DEAD? I think real crew's period is over but this mean isn't a ending, ain't it? Punk and their elements are using and also oldschool bands plays still this style quite beautiful and we can' forget fresh bands. I disagree with AMERICAN HARDCORE documentary film's final words. PUNK CAN NOT DIE! Punk will never die. The sound might evolve but the philosophy is a way of life, an attitude, a state of mind. Even if electricity goes out forever, punk will live on in whatever form possible. A musician says "DRUGS must be legal is everywhere". What can you say about drugs? Alcohol, smokes, medicines is seeming very innocent near of drugs. The time is coming when conventional medicine is going to confront itself with the truth about herbs and natural and traditional medicine. More and more people are learning about this truth and are using these herbs to heal themselves. Unfortunately, due to the emotional torture of living in modern society, many have become swallowed in the cycle of abuse and addiction. We know that before civilization there was no drug addiction, and hopefully the conditions of balance that used to exist can be re-created within communities that reject the illusion.
Your biggest president Bush's new politics are awesome. This wonderful man is too thoughtful, I want to cry for him now. But we do not forget our terrible president Recep Tayyip Erdo,,an. Bush is from Texas but our Tayyip is from "Kas,,mpa,,a". Do you think that is Bush scaring from Tayyip huh! huh! huh!? We’re not sure about the connections between the two leaders, but in general we distrust all leaders and believe all individuals most follow no man, and be lead by their own hearts. Do you want to come here for concert? Have you ever listen a extreme Turkish band? We've a lot of crazy oldschool grind/crust/punk freak, be sure. We’d love to play there! We’re not familiar with many bands from there but we’re very interested in hearing more. Would you have some words for the Rock Vault Webzine? First of all we’d like to thank you for the opportunity to express our views and opinions. We wish everyone good health, peace, love, and respect. We're feeling ourself is very lucky because to interview with Resistant Culture is big honour for us. I suppose any Turkish writer didn't do this. We're lucky second times here. Thanks for your interest. GRIND ON!! Thank you! Peace, love, respect! |
