Rezhawk agrees its significance is paramount, but sees hope in the future, predicting a resurgence of socially conscious extreme music.

"With the state of the world today in greater crisis than ever, being 'politically-mind' is becoming the norm. In the world of metal and grindcore it's become marginalized, but that's changing rapidly even as you publish this.

Political awareness now is less of a hobby and more of a necessity for surviving the future."

He sees grind's current preoccupation as a distraction anchored in affluence with energy that can potentially be redirected towards positive change.

"The gore obsession seems to be escapism, but soon there will be nowhere to escape to. Anyone who can flick off political awareness can only do so from a place of material comfort. When that security blanket of electricity, industrial food supply, running water, are taken away, the gore will be your own experience.

It's always been an uphill battle being a doomsayer because people want enjoyable entertainment and to escape the drudgery of work, school, etc. which is understandable. The pit is a positive and healthy place to get out of your mind and forget about your problems and the problems of our world. However at some point we'll need to cultivate this cathartic energy and apply it to not just political causes, but towards efforts to build sustainable communities."
